At the Sustainable Energy and Materials Laboratory (SEML), we develop innovative technologies and materials to address challenges in sustainable energy and resource utilization. Our research integrates thermochemical processing, advanced carbon materials, energy storage, and resource recovery to create environmentally responsible solutions.
Our research focuses on the thermochemical conversion of biomass and other carbonaceous feedstocks into sustainable fuels and value-added carbon materials. We investigate how processing conditions influence product yields, material properties, and performance, with applications in biochar production, carbon utilization, and sustainable energy systems.
Our research focuses on developing biomass-derived hard carbon anodes for sodium-ion batteries. We investigate how carbon structure, surface chemistry, and processing conditions influence sodium storage performance, while exploring electrode–electrolyte interfaces and solid polymer electrolytes to improve battery stability and efficiency.
Our research explores sustainable approaches to industrial byproduct utilization, waste valorization, and resource recovery. We investigate the transformation of waste-derived materials, including gypsum and coal combustion byproducts, into value-added products, while developing environmentally responsible processing strategies for critical mineral recovery and sustainable material applications.
